Spanning the entire 150 metres of the first part  of the MYRRHA particle accelerator, this artwork  takes on an impressively large physical form.  Its colours are derived from research data plots illustrating the “MYRRHA Neutron Spectrum”, which determines the shade and structure of each panel. Each panel represents a specific cavity  (unique numbering) and its performance.  The cavity is also represented in a wireframe  of its 3D model. Following the installation of the  artwork on the future accelerator’s location, the plotted panels can  be cut, sewn and brought to life as garments for the MYRRHA representatives. Anyone can wear a unique representation, displaying a unique cavity number and its performance.

The research facility MYRRHA is engaged in one of  the most ambitious nuclear energy projects.  MYRRHA will be a unique facility, a world premiere, conducting research in four areas: the reduction of toxic nuclear waste through transmutation, the production of innovative medical radioisotopes, exploration of new advanced reactor concepts, and fundamental  physics research. This is facilitated by special technology:  a high power particle accelerator driving a reactor with  lead-bismuth as coolant. As a result, MYRRHA operates as an Accelerator Driven System (ADS).

MYRRHA Accelerator Driven System (ADS) consists of a subcritical  nuclear reactor driven by a high power linear accelerator. Because  of the subcritical concentration of fission material, the nuclear   reaction is sustained by the particle accelerator only.      Turning off the proton beam results in an immediate and safe halt of the nuclear reactions.
